Biography

Homeira Mortazavi

Mortazavi’s visual narratives give voice to a feminist worldview. Her figurative art deals with issues of self-identity, belonging, women’s experience and the relation between human and nature, focusing on women and flowers in particular. In her painting, the female body does not represent the subject of desire, much less a sexual object, rather it constitutes an instrument of liberation, a means of resistance, and a redoubt against the commodification of women. Mortazavi has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Canada, the United States, France and Argentina. She currently lives and works in Montreal, where she also teaches painting and drawing to adults. “I am intrigued by the beauty of the human form and nature, both truthful as they are in their nakedness and I translate that into my art”
